In this 21st century global economy, the sad fact is that British businesses are suffering in the Broadband famine - and many don't even realise it...

Internet Gaming, Video-Conferencing and virtual shopping - and a whole world of other exciting services yet to even be imagined...

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned and frustrated by the continued slow pace of Broadband service rollout across the UK. As the divide between Broadband haves and have-nots continues to widen, we are alarmed at the lack
of well defined policy and objectives from government at all levels.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, the elemental enablers of the rapid progress of society and commerce were intellectual property, the basic utilities and good transport. In the 21st century, as the knowledge economy develops, we believe that Broadband becomes the critical fourth element. The education of our children and their prospects as adults; the success of UK businesses of all sizes; the continued attractiveness of the UK as a seedbed for indigenous entrepreneurs and inward investors; the regeneration and conservation of our rural areas; all depend on the UK developing a world-class Broadband infrastructure as fast if not faster than our competitors.

We therefore call on national, regional and local governments to create effective and co-ordinated policy to accelerate the availability of Broadband in all of its forms, to all homes and businesses, in all corners of the UK.
